Eucharistic Miracles

    Throughout history, God has granted extraordinary signs affirming the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. Scientific investigations have repeatedly confirmed human cardiac tissue and blood type AB in these miraculous hosts — the same blood type found on the Shroud of Turin.

    Documented Eucharistic Miracles

    The Miracle of Lanciano, Italy (c. 750 AD)

    Lanciano, Italy

    A Basilian monk doubting the Real Presence celebrated Mass, and the bread transformed into living flesh and the wine into blood. Scientific analysis in 1971 by Dr. Odoardo Linoli confirmed the flesh is human heart tissue (myocardium) and the blood is type AB — the same blood type found on the Shroud of Turin. The relics remain preserved and incorrupt to this day.

    The Miracle of Buenos Aires, Argentina (1996)

    A discarded consecrated Host placed in water began to grow into bloody tissue. In 1999, Dr. Ricardo Castañón sent samples to Dr. Frederick Zugibe in New York, who — without knowing the origin — identified the tissue as living human heart muscle (left ventricle) showing signs of trauma and inflammation. The blood type was AB.

    The Miracle of Orvieto / Bolsena, Italy (1263)

    Bolsena / Orvieto, Italy

    A German priest doubting transubstantiation celebrated Mass in Bolsena. The Host began to bleed onto the corporal cloth. Pope Urban IV, residing in nearby Orvieto, investigated and later instituted the Feast of Corpus Christi. The bloodstained corporal is preserved in the Cathedral of Orvieto.

    The Miracle of Santarém, Portugal (c. 1247)

    A woman took a consecrated Host from Mass to use for sorcery. On her way home, the Host began bleeding. She hid it in a chest, which emitted brilliant light during the night. The Host, still showing signs of blood, is preserved in the Church of the Holy Miracle in Santarém.

    The Miracle of Sokółka, Poland (2008)

    Sokółka, Poland

    A consecrated Host fell to the floor during Communion and was placed in water to dissolve. Instead, a red-brown substance appeared on the Host. Two independent pathomorphologists from the Medical University of Białystok determined the tissue to be heart muscle (myocardium) intertwined with the bread — as though the bread had transformed into cardiac tissue.

    The Miracle of Tixtla, Mexico (2006)

    Tixtla, Guerrero, Mexico

    During a retreat, a consecrated Host held by a religious sister began to effuse a reddish substance. Scientific investigation led by Dr. Ricardo Castañón revealed the substance was blood of type AB, with hemoglobin and white blood cells present — indicating the blood was from a living person at the time of the event.

    The Miracle of Legnica, Poland (2013)

    A consecrated Host that had fallen to the floor was placed in water. A red stain appeared on the Host. The Department of Forensic Medicine confirmed the tissue to be most similar to heart muscle tissue, with alterations suggesting distress. Bishop Zbigniew Kiernikowski acknowledged the event as supernatural.

    During Mass, a priest broke a large consecrated Host and it began to bleed. Multiple witnesses observed the event. The Host was preserved and studied; the blood was confirmed as type AB. Bishop Pio Bello Ricardo formally recognized the miracle.

    The Miracle of Siena, Italy (1730)

    Siena, Italy

    351 consecrated Hosts stolen from the Basilica of San Francesco were found in an alms box days later. Kept as a precaution, the Hosts have remained perfectly preserved and fresh for nearly 300 years — defying all natural laws of decay. Scientific examinations in 1914 and 1922 confirmed no preservatives and no explanation for their incorruption.

    The Miracle of Blanot, France (1331)

    A priest accidentally dropped a consecrated Host, and when he recovered it, it had transformed into visible flesh with traces of blood. The relic was preserved and examined multiple times over the centuries, with the tissue remaining intact.
